The 2025/2026 football season has kicked off, and Ghanaian players abroad are already stealing the spotlight with stellar performances in the opening week in Europe’s top leagues.

Fans back home who are keenly following the league are already making predictions about who will emerge as the country’s leading scorer by end of the season.

On Monday, August 18th 2025, Abigail Lanilord Lartey of Ghanaweb took to the streets of Accra to gather opinions of football enthusiasts on two standout stars: Antoine Semenyo and Kudus Mohammed.

Many Ghanaians tipped Semenyo, Bournemouth’s number nine, for his clinical finishing and goal-scoring instinct, believing his role as a traditional striker gives him the edge to top the charts.

“For me, I believe Antoine will come on top. What he did at Anfield shows how good he is,” a fan noted.

“Antoine’s performance is satisfying. I believe he will end the season with more goals,” he added.

Their enthusiasm reflects the pride Ghanaians take in their players’ performances across leagues like the Premier League, where both stars are making waves.

On the other hand, a vocal group of fans championed Kudus Mohammed, pointing to his electrifying start at Tottenham Hotspur, where he’s already shone in the first two matches with assists.

Supporters argued that Kudus’ versatility, blending goal-scoring flair with playmaking ability, makes him a strong contender to be Ghana’s top scorer in Europe by the end of the season.

A fan said, “It will definitely be Kudus, he moved to Tottenham Hotspur F.C. recently and we have seen a glimpse of what he will do there with the two official games he played for them so far”.

“I’m rooting for Kudus; his performance this season is top-notch,” another fan stated.

The lively street discussions highlighted a split in opinions, with some fans insisting Semenyo’s striker instincts will prevail, while others are convinced Kudus’ all-around brilliance at Spurs will see him outshine his compatriot.

This debate emphasises the growing impact of Ghanaian talent on the global stage, as fans are eagerly watching their stars light up the season.
