Following the discovery of a huge collection of counterfeit currency and probable gold bars hidden within twelve 20-foot shipping containers, Ghanaians have expressed shock.

The illicit hoard was discovered when cops raided a warehouse in Sapeiman, which is part of the Ga South Municipality, after receiving a tip.

Bundles of counterfeit US dollars were discovered inside wooden boxes that had been concealed in cement to evade discovery. Additional security concerns were raised by the discovery of counterfeit Ghana cedi notes and phony Ghana Army uniforms and boots.

After a tip-off, the containers were tracked to a warehouse in Sapeiman, which is part of the Ga South Municipality, where a special operation was carried out.

In cement-filled wooden bins, the deftly hidden cash—mostly bundles of US dollars—was discovered.

During the sting operation, further boxes in the warehouse were opened, revealing more currency hidden within boxes that were sealed with charcoal and blocked with plywood.

State security trackers are aggressively chasing two containers that have not yet been found, according to the National Security personnel involved in the operation.

Meanwhile, four suspects, including a kingpin who goes as Alhaji, are the target of a manhunt.

There have been a lot of conversations on the development on social media. The National Security personnel have received praise from some segments of the public for their prompt action. National Security has “started working again” with the change of government, according to some.

Below are some reactions

“When last did we hear such a piece of news?

We were only hearing personnel of national security involvement in armed robbery and attack on opposition.”

“Now we have a proper national security apparatus. Not that one in pyjamas.”
