The Black Galaxies of Ghana will, for the first time in four years, miss the African Nations Championship (CHAN). Ghana, who was aiming for its fifth appearance at the CHAN tournament, fell to a 3-1 defeat to an inspired Nigerian side, who were also seeking their first appearance since 2018.

This result capped off a woeful 2024 season for Ghanaian football, after the senior national team also failed to secure qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The result meant Nigeria progressed 3-1 on aggregate after the first leg in Ghana ended in a 0-0 draw. Consequently, Ghana will have to watch the tournament, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, from February 1-28, 2025.

Ghana joins a list of top countries that failed to qualify, as Ivory Coast and Cameroon also missed out.

Ghanaians have since taken to social media to express their frustration and anger. Some fans continue to call out the Ghana Football Association, while others demand reforms. Ghana’s best record at the tournament so far has been four runner-up finishes.

    Read some reactions below:

Kurt Okraku’s administration is worse than hell.

I’m not sure we can ever get any GFA President to be worse than him.
