UK-based Nigerian radio and television personality Adesope Olajide has predicted a dominant future for Ghanaian music on global and local charts.

Speaking on the performance of Ghanaian acts in 2025, Adesope said the country’s music scene is moving beyond sporadic hits to sustained chart presence.

“The future of Ghanaian music, for me, is domination in the charts. I don’t want only one single here or there. I want one, two, three, four or five artistes competing at the highest level,” he said.

How #PlayGhana Initiative led to Ghana’s streaming reclaim – Adesope Olajide explains

Speaking in an interview with GhanaWeb’s Isaac Dadzie, he noted that 2025 marked a major turning point, with Ghanaian artistes taking over the top 50 songs across all streaming platforms in Ghana, a turnaround from previous years when local charts were largely dominated by foreign music.

Adesope credited this shift to the #PlayGhana initiative, which has encouraged the promotion and consumption of Ghanaian music.

“That’s never happened before, and I believe the conversation by the #PlayGhana initiative was one of the things that spearheaded the change,” he stated.

According to him, the initiative has also boosted the confidence of Ghanaian artistes to organise and headline their own shows locally, a development he described as unprecedented.

“Everybody starts to feel confident and proud of their heritage when their superstars are not only operating at a high level but also creating opportunities for home-based fans to experience them,” he explained.

He added that while major concerts by Ghanaian artistes were previously held mostly abroad, there has been a clear shift towards prioritising home concerts, leading to higher streaming numbers from local consumers.

Comparing the Ghanaian and Nigerian creative industries, Adesope praised the Ghanaian mindset, describing it as calm and receptive.

“There’s something about the Ghanaian mentality that allows quality talent to come to the forefront. That openness allows people to bring their expertise out,” he said.
