In 2025, several prominent entertainment personalities found themselves entangled in court battles over issues ranging from defamation to copyright infringement.
These high-profile lawsuits not only sparked public debates, but also highlighted the growing importance of accountability, intellectual property rights, and responsible conduct within the industry.
This GhanaWeb article takes a closer look at some Ghanaian entertainment personalities who faced legal actions in 2025.
Agradaa and Empress Gifty
In the early part of 2025, gospel musician Empress Gifty Adorye filed a lawsuit at the Tema High Court against self-styled evangelist Patricia Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.
According to court documents shared by Hopeson Adorye, husband of the gospel artiste, Empress Gifty filed the defamation suit through her lawyers, Osei Aidoh Akpokavie and Co, at the Tema High Court on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.
In her suit, the artiste claimed that Agradaa had made derogatory remarks about her and presented four reliefs to the court, including a demand for GH¢20,000,000 as damages for slander and libel.
She also requested a perpetual injunction to restrain Agradaa, “her servants, agents, privies, and assigns howsoever,” from publishing the said words or any similar statements.
Meanwhile, following the imprisonment of Agradaa, the convicted preacher, in December 2025, formally retracted and disowned all allegations she had previously made against gospel musician Empress Gifty, admitting that the claims were false and without any factual basis.

Medikal and Alabaster Box
Rapper Medikal was slapped with a GH¢15 million copyright infringement lawsuit on April 15, 2025, by music group Alabaster Box.
Alabaster Box, in their lawsuit, alleged that the rapper sampled their popular song “Akwaaba” in his song “Welcome to Africa” without obtaining their permission.
They further requested a full account of all revenue generated from the promotion, distribution, performance, and marketing of the disputed track.
According to the writ of summons dated April 15, 2025, which circulated widely on social media, Alabaster Box is seeking GH¢10 million in general damages for the alleged copyright infringement.
Additionally, the group is demanding GH¢5 million for what they described as Medikal’s intentional infringement of their intellectual property.

Afia Schwarzenegger and Sammy Gyamfi
On April 23, 2025, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD), Sammy Gyamfi, sued popular media personality Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa, widely known as Afia Schwarzenegger, for GH¢10 million over alleged defamatory statements.

In the suit, which was filed on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, Gyamfi cited statements from a video shared by Afia Schwarzenegger on her social media platforms, in which she accused him of infidelity, engaging in multiple affairs, and purchasing vehicles for female students of the University of Ghana.
According to the suit, Gyamfi is seeking a restraining order to prevent Schwarzenegger from making further statements about him, a public apology to be published on her social media platforms and in a national newspaper, as well as damages amounting to GH¢10 million.
