Thomas Boakye’s time at Halmstads BK has come to an end.

The Swedish club confirmed on Wednesday that they will not renew the Ghanaian defender’s contract, marking the end of his six-year tenure with HBK.

Boakye, 31, made just five appearances in the 2024 Allsvenskan season, struggling with injuries and illness that limited his competitive edge.

Coach Johan Lindholm acknowledged Boakye’s significant contribution to the club over the years but emphasised that seeking regular playing time elsewhere was the best option for the player.

“Thomas has served HBK with dedication, but his recent challenges have made it difficult for him to compete at his usual level,” Lindholm told Hallandsposten. “To be fair to himself, it’s time for him to find new opportunities.”

Boakye joined Halmstads BK in 2018 from Varbergs Bois and featured in 168 competitive matches for the club. Before that, he also played for Östersunds FK, further cementing his reputation in Swedish football.

According to Transfermarkt, his current market value is 200,000 euros.
