Ghanaian-born cyclist and sports scientist Emmanuel Akoa Adjei has paid a courtesy call on the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts following the completion of a historic solo cycling expedition from Munich, Germany, to his hometown, Teshie, in Accra.

The 105-day transcontinental journey was undertaken to raise awareness and support for education in marginalized communities across Ghana.

During the visit, the Chief Director of the Ministry, Joseph Kwasi Amoah, who received the group on behalf of the sector minister, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, commended Emmanuel’s initiative as a powerful demonstration of how sports and culture can be harnessed to promote social change.

He emphasised that the Ministry remains committed to supporting initiatives that advance education, cultural exchange, and community empowerment.

Amoah further highlighted the significance of Emmanuel’s journey, describing it not only as a remarkable physical achievement but also as a mission deeply rooted in cultural exploration and the upliftment of disadvantaged communities.

Emmanuel, who resides in Munich and works as a professional sports scientist, described the expedition as both a personal passion and a humanitarian mission.

He explained that the journey aimed to raise awareness and mobilize resources to support underprivileged children through education.

In collaboration with local NGO EduSports, which operates in 11 regions and 50 communities across Ghana, the initiative is providing essential educational materials such as books, laptops, Wi-Fi kits and training programmes designed to empower local communities to take charge of their educational development.

He noted that the journey was about more than just covering distance—it was about building educational bridges, inspiring the youth, and connecting with the diverse cultures, languages and people across Africa.

Emmanuel appealed to stakeholders, including government ministries, private institutions, and the media, to support and amplify the initiative, stressing that while the cycling expedition has ended, the broader mission is only just beginning.

The Ministry expressed strong interest in future collaborations that integrate culture, education, and youth development, reaffirming its commitment to supporting impactful grassroots initiatives that drive national growth and social transformation.
