President John Dramani Mahama has expressed his commitment to constructing event centres to boost the growth of Ghana’s creative arts industry.

Delivering the 2026 State of the Nation Address on Friday, February 27, 2026, President Mahama assured Ghanaians that his government will prioritise the construction of modern event centres across the country.

He explained that the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) is no longer sufficient for a country seeking to position its creative sector as West Africa’s preferred destination for meetings, conferences, musical concerts, and entertainment.

He added that his administration is prepared to partner with the private sector to ensure work begins this year.

“Mr Speaker, the AICC is not enough for a country seeking to make its creative sector West Africa’s destination for meetings, conferences, musical concerts, and entertainment.

“So, working with the private sector, work will commence this year on a befitting convention and creative event centre to position Ghana as West Africa’s leading hub for meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibitions, and creative events,” he said.

President Mahama further noted that his administration will also undertake the renovation of the State Banquet Hall.

“Ghana will also begin, this year, the renovation of the State Banquet Hall, which has been closed for a couple of years,” he added.
