Ghana has selected two athletes and two coaches to participate in the Africa Youth Athletes Development Project scheduled to take place in Nairobi from April 5 to 12, as part of ongoing preparations for the 2026 Summer Youth Olympics.

The initiative forms a key component of efforts to groom young talents ahead of the global competition, which will be hosted in Dakar later this year. The selected athletes are recent breakout stars at the Ashanti Super zonals, Gladys Boateng a.k.a. Gaza and Blessed Owusu. They expected to benefit from high-level training, mentorship, and exposure to international standards during the programme.

Officials believe the project will help sharpen the skills of Ghana’s young prospects while also equipping their coaches with modern techniques and strategies to enhance performance. The inclusion of coaches is aimed at ensuring long-term development by transferring knowledge gained during the programme to the local level.

The Africa Youth Athletes Development Project brings together promising talents from across the continent, providing a platform to build capacity and foster collaboration. Ghana’s participation underscores its commitment to nurturing the next generation of athletes ahead of the Youth Olympic Games.
