The Ghana Police Service and the Office of the Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability have agreed to collaborate on a joint initiative to advance sports as a strategic tool for climate action and sustainability within the Ghana Police Service.

The engagement followed a meeting convened by Seidu Issifu, Minister of State responsible for Climate Change and Sustainability, who invited ASP Bernice Timbilla, Director of Sports of the Ghana Police Service, for discussions on partnership opportunities.

While the initial engagement concept was introduced by the minister, deliberations during the meeting led to the joint adoption of an expanded Sports–Climate Action framework, proposed by ASP Bernice Timbilla, which integrates sports development, climate awareness, and sustainability practices across the police service.

The refined initiative was mutually endorsed by both institutions as a practical and impactful approach.

The agreed framework focuses on leveraging police sports platforms to promote environmental responsibility, climate education, and sustainable practices, including green sports infrastructure, climate-smart sports event management, and community and youth engagement programs driven through police sports disciplines.

Both institutions emphasised the importance of collaborative leadership and co-creation, noting that the final initiative reflects the minister’s policy leadership on climate change and the Ghana Police Service’s operational strength in sports development and community outreach.

Seidu Issifu welcomed the collaborative outcome and reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with the Ghana Police Service to align the initiative with national climate and sustainability priorities.

ASP Bernice Timbilla expressed appreciation to the minister for initiating the engagement and underscored the police service’s readiness to jointly implement the agreed Sports–Climate Action agenda.

Further technical engagements are expected to formalise the partnership and outline clear implementation pathways.
