Black Stars goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare

Accra Hearts of Oak shot stopper, Benjamin Asare, will be honoured by the Ghana National Ex-Goalkeepers Union at the Sunlodge Hotel on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.

The event, which will take place at 10am Tuesday morning, has been necessitated by Asare’s exploits at both club and national team levels.

The occasion is expected to bring together legends of Ghana’s footballing past—the former national goalkeepers. Their mission is to honor the current Black Stars goalkeeper, a rising star who has captured the hearts of fans with his remarkable skills and unwavering dedication.

This initiative is spearheaded by the chairman of the group, Adjei Agyeman, former Ashgold goalkeeper. Having donned the national jersey with pride during his time at then Obuasi Goldfields, he understands the weight of legacy and the importance of mentorship.

In a telephone conversation with Adjei Agyeman he said “ We started this group with the objective of improving the goalkeeping departments of our domestic league as well as the national teams.

“Our initiative led to the monthly best goalkeeper award scheme in the ongoing Ghana Premier League aimed at motivating the younger generation of goalkeepers and improving standards. Benjamin Asare has been outstanding, and we want to honour him to motivate the rest.”

The Ghana National Ex-Goalkeepers Union (GNEGU) is inviting the press and the general public to join in the celebration of Ghanaian international goalkeeper Benjamin Asare.
