The Government of Ghana has pledged to support the appointment of a top-class and experienced head coach for the Black Stars following the dismissal of Otto Addo.

Addo was relieved of his duties after Ghana’s poor showing during the March international window, where the team suffered a heavy defeat to Austria and a narrow loss to Germany in friendly matches.

The Ghana Football Association confirmed the decision shortly after the results, prompting a search for a new head coach ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

GFA President Kurt Okraku revealed that more than 600 applications have been received, with a new coach expected to be appointed within two weeks.

High-profile names such as Kwesi Appiah, Pitso Mosimane, Tom Saintfiet and Hervé Renard have all been linked to the role.

Sources indicate the government, through the Sports Ministry, has urged the GFA to secure a proven winner capable of inspiring confidence within the squad.

The Black Stars will regroup in May and June for final warm-up matches against Mexico and Wales before the World Cup begins.
