Manchester City have unearthed another Ghanaian gem and this one sparkles with goals.

Teenage sensation Ryan McAidoo, just 17, lit up the FA Cup by scoring on his senior debut for City, announcing himself in unforgettable fashion on the big stage for his club and potentially for the Black Stars.

Thrown into the spotlight by Pep Guardiola, the fearless youngster showed nerves of steel as he found the net, becoming the latest academy graduate to seize his chance at the Etihad.

McAidoo’s fairytale moment came in a cup tie already brimming with storylines, the same match that also saw Antoine Semenyo score on his City after arriving from Bournemouth this week, underlining the night as one for rising stars to remember for Ghanaians.

But it was McAidoo who stole the headlines.

The forward’s goal capped a breakthrough performance that had fans buzzing and pundits scrambling for superlatives, with his pace, composure and eye for goal marking him out as one to watch.

Guardiola has never been shy of trusting youth and McAidoo repaid that faith instantly.

GHANAsoccernet sources close to the club say the GFA have been tracking his progress closely, convinced his mentality sets him apart. On this evidence, they’re right.

McAidoo has already been making waves at youth level, but this was different. This was senior football. This was pressure. And this was a finish to match.

The teenager kept his cool, slotting home with the confidence of a seasoned pro as City powered on in the FA Cup, with McAidoo’s name suddenly on everyone’s lips.

And there’s more intrigue to come.

Despite pulling on the sky blue of Manchester City, McAidoo is eligible to represent Ghana at international level, a fact sure to have scouts from the African giants watching closely.

City fans know all about academy stars breaking through, from Phil Foden to Rico Lewis and McAidoo looks ready to follow that path.

A debut goal. A famous competition. A night to remember.
