Ghana defender Baba Rahman says he has learned to cope with jeers from fans and remains open to returning to the Black Stars, after over a year away from the national team.

The left-back, who impressed for Greek side PAOK last season, says he remains in contact with the national team technical team and is preparing for a possible comeback.

Speaking on the boos, which many thoughts had contributed largely to his national team break, Rahman told Joy Sports, “The jeering didn’t faze me during the match, as a pro, you learn to handle that. But after the final whistle, as I walked to the team bus, it really hit home,” he said.

“We had just won, so naturally, I expected some enthusiasm or backing, but instead, I was still being jeered. That part was hard to swallow.”

Since that incident, Rahman has stayed away from the Black Stars despite being consistent for his club and being one of Ghana’s most improved defenders in recent seasons, playing at a high level, including excelling in European competitions such as the Europa League.

His last match was in September 2023, when he was subjected to boos by Black Stars fans, who felt he had underperformed in the 2-1 victory over the Central African Republic in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match.
