The former Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), Alhaji Ali Raji, mediated to avert a potential impeachment against incumbent Kudjoe Fianoo over a plot to frustrate the administration of the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku.

Raji, a well-respected former GHALCA chairman, is reported to have played a significant role in brokering a truce between angry Executive Council members and their under-fire chairman over his recent media diatribe against the leader of Ghanaian football.

GHALCA acknowledged Alhaji Raji’s mediating role when they released an official statement on Thursday, October 24, 2024, to distance themselves from recent media interviews by their chairman targeted at Kurt Okraku.

“The EXCO wishes to express its profound gratitude to Alhaji Raji, immediate past Chairman of GHALCA, for his effort in mediating the thorny issues in the EXCO.”

Angry members of the club’s welfare body are up in arms with Kudjoe Fianoo over his impeachment plot against the President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku.

They are unhappy with the negative posturing of their leader towards the Football Association President, vowing not to allow him to use the welfare body as a vehicle to settle ‘personal vendettas.’

They describe his actions as a kick in the teeth, as support from members is required during this difficult period following the Black Stars’ unpleasant performances in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Critics have accused him of running down the club’s welfare body since he assumed office in 2017, highlighting his own failures in the organization of GHALCA competitions and doing little to enhance the welfare of clubs.

He told the Ghanaian media last week of waging a campaign to oust the duly elected President of the Football Association, amid the Black Stars’ struggles in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Fianoo, an avid critic of former GFA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi, threw caution to the wind when he went berserk in the local media, preaching an impeachment campaign against the incumbent FA boss.

The attempt and the show of bravado have not gone down well with the majority of GHALCA members, who are unhappy with the negative posturing of their chairman, multiple sources from GHANAsoccernet.com say.

It promises to be a showdown if the GHALCA General Assembly is convened, with Mr. Fianoo expected to bow out from office in January 2025.

For now, the battle lines have clearly been drawn between the GHALCA Executive Council members on one side, and Chairman Kudjoe Fianoo on the other.
