GFA President, Kurt Okraku and GHALCA chairman, Kudjoe Fianoo

The Ghana League Club Association (GHALCA) have issued an apology to the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, over the threat by their chairman, Kudjoe Fianoo, to get him impeached.

In a statement issued on October 24, GHALCA said that while Kudjoe Fianoo issued the threat in his personal capacity, they felt compelled to apologize on his behalf to maintain their relationship with the FA.

GHALCA, while distancing itself from the statement by Kudjoe Fianoo, stated that it had no intentions of embarking on a ‘coup’ against Kurt Okraku and the FA.

“The Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) wishes to disassociate itself from the recent radio interviews granted by the Chairman of the Association, Mr. Kudjoe Fianoo, as follows:

“The EXCO has no problem with Mr. Fianoo expressing his personal opinions on any issue in Ghana Football, though there is a thin line between his personal opinion and what he expresses on behalf of the Association.

“That GHALCA EXCO has no intention to stage a coup against him for expressing his personal views on recent happenings in Ghana Football.

“That on 24 September this year, the Chairman led the EXCO to meet with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Youth and Sports and presented a paper on finding solutions to the poor performance of the Black Stars,” parts of the statement read.

Kudjoe Fianoo told Oyerepa FM that he will take action against the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku.

He explained that since Kurt assumed office, the standards of football in the country have dwindled drastically, with the various national teams finding it difficult to excel in tournaments.

The GHALCA chairman also noted that the GFA does not render proper accountability to the public regarding budgets for tournaments, leading to criticisms.

Kudjoe Fianoo stated that due to the aforementioned reasons, he would commence legal action against Kurt Okraku to ensure that he is impeached so a new person can take over and steer the affairs of the GFA.

“The system at the GFA is crashed and change is overdue. Together with GHALCA, I will soon lead an impeachment process against Kurt Okraku to restore integrity and accountability to our football,” he said, as shared by Oyerepa FM.
