A member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council, Frederick Acheampong, popularly known as Fred Achie, has lost his mother.

The tragic news was announced by sports journalist Collins Atta Poku, which he attributed to the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG).

Atta Poku expressed his condolences to his former colleague, with whom he used to work as a journalist at Kumasi-based Kessben FM, and encouraged him to stay strong in such a trying moment.

“Reading on the SWAG platform that Fred Achie has lost his mom really broke me down. My Kessben days allowed me to see how close he is to his mom and how much he clung to her.

“That is a devastating blow for Kofi. This mortal life is strange. Only God knows what is good for us,” Atta Poku wrote on X on December 20, 2024.

Meanwhile, Fred Achie is yet to comment on the news publicly as he shares moments with the bereaved family.

This comes as a big blow to the GFA Executive Council member, who lost the 2024 parliamentary elections for the Ahafo Ano South East seat on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He lost to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Yakubu Mohammed.
