The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has decided to engage key stakeholders, including politicians, before determining the future of Black Stars coach Otto Addo.

According to a Joy Sports report, the Executive Council’s meeting with Otto Addo on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, ended inconclusively regarding the coach’s job after the discussions.

It was reported that some members of the GFA Executive Council called for the dismissal of Otto Addo due to his inability to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which was part of the key performance indicators (KPIs).

Others argued that consistent changes of coaches in the Black Stars have not yielded any positive outcomes, adding that the financial cost involved in a possible sacking would not make sense.

Some suggested the coach should be given a chance to oversee the team’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

At the end of the discussions, GFA President Kurt Okraku decided that since there has been a deadlock, his outfit will engage in extensive consultations that will include prominent politicians and government stakeholders before a final decision is taken.

Per reports, Otto Addo cited injuries, the absence of key players, and a lack of competent technical staff as some of the reasons for the Black Stars’ abysmal performance in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.

Ghana could not qualify for the AFCON for the first time in 20 years after accumulating three points in six games and placing bottom of Group F.
