The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has joined the national mourning of the tragic loss of Defence Minister, Dr. Omane Boamah, Minister of Environment, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and six others who perished in a helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
In a statement sighted by GhanaWeb, the GFA expressed its profound sorrow and extended its condolences to the President, the Government of Ghana, and the families of the victims of the tragic military helicopter crash.
“The GFA conveys its heartfelt sympathies on the passing of Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the Minister for Defence; Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, the Minister for Environment; Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, the Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC); and Mr. Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate.
The association also mourns the loss of the crew members: Squadron Leader Peter Anala, Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo. The GFA shares the nation’s collective grief and pays tribute to the dedication and service of all these gallant men who perished in the line of duty.
The GFA’s Executive Council and the entire football community join the nation in mourning this immense loss and stand in solidarity with the bereaved families during this difficult time,” the statement from the Ghana Football Association read.
