The Ghana Football Association joined Islamic faithful, football administrators and national stakeholders on Friday, May 15, 2026, for a special national Islamic prayer session in support of the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The solemn gathering took place at the National Mosque in Kanda, Accra and was led by the National Chief Imam, His Eminence, Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, who offered prayers for the protection, unity and success of Ghana’s senior national team as they prepare to represent the country in North America.

The prayer session formed part of efforts to seek divine guidance and blessings for the Black Stars as preparations intensify for Ghana’s fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup.

GFA President and CAF Second Vice-President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku was present at the event alongside several key football officials and administrators.

Among those in attendance were Executive Council member Samuel Aboabire, Black Stars Management Committee member Moses Armah, Director of Marketing Jamil Maraby, Chief of Staff Michael Osekre, Dreams FC President Jiji Alifoe Mohammed and GFA Vice President Prince Abdul Hamid.

Ghana will begin their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto before taking on England on June 23 in Boston.

The Black Stars will conclude their Group L matches against Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia as hopes continue to build for a strong Ghanaian campaign at the tournament.
