The German Embassy in Accra has confirmed that the late Highlife musician, Daddy Lumba, was legally married to Akosua Serwaa under German civil law.

In an official statement issued on October 27, 2025, and signed by Susan Lüdtke, the Embassy’s Second Secretary and Consul in charge of Legal and Consular Affairs, the embassy stated that there was a valid and binding marriage between the late musician, born Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, and Akosua Serwah.

According to the document, the couple were lawfully wedded on December 23, 2004, in Bornheim, Germany. Their marriage was recorded at the local marriage registry under the reference number E 142/2004. The embassy further confirmed that the union remained intact until Lumba’s death, as there was no evidence of a divorce.

“This is to confirm that, according to German civil law, there exists a valid marriage between Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, born in Nsuta, and Akosua Fosuh, maiden name Akosua Serwah, born in Kumasi. The marriage was celebrated on 23.12.2004 in Bornheim, Germany, in the presence of the couple and is registered in the marriage registry office under the number E 142/2004. As far as the Embassy is aware of, the marriage has not been dissolved by divorce but ended with the decease of the husband on 26.07.2025,” the embassy’s statement read.

Meanwhile, Akosua Serwah and the musician’s sister, Ernestina Fosuh, have called for an international investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. They have cited conflicting reports about his final hours.

Their joint petition, dated October 13, 2025, and signed by the family secretary on their behalf, was submitted to the German Embassy in Ghana, Germany’s Federal Criminal Police Office, and Ghana’s Criminal Investigations Department.

The letter detailed inconsistencies in witness accounts and urged both countries’ authorities to probe deeper into what the family described as unanswered questions surrounding Daddy Lumba’s death.
