Former Black Stars assistant coach George Boateng has been appointed head coach of Belgian third-tier club RAEC Mons, signing a three-year contract to succeed Emilio Ferrera.

The 49-year-old Dutch international had been unattached since leaving Coventry City in November 2024, following the arrival of Frank Lampard at the English Championship side.

Boateng, who holds a UEFA Pro License, brings extensive coaching experience, including a stint with the Ghana national team.

He served as an assistant coach during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Following a disappointing campaign, the Ghana Football Association dissolved the entire senior national team technical staff, paving the way for Boateng’s next move.

A former midfielder, Boateng retired from professional football in 2013 after notable spells in England with Coventry City, Aston Villa, Middlesbrough, Hull City, and Nottingham Forest.

His coaching résumé also includes a head coach role with Malaysian side Kelantan and a stint as Aston Villa U-23 head coach.
