Former Black Stars Management Committee Chairman George Afriyie has called on Ghanaians to lower their expectations ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, cautioning that recent changes to the team’s technical setup do not guarantee success.

Ghana, will be making their fifth appearance at the global tournament after being drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) recently bolstered the Black Stars’ backroom staff with five new appointments aimed at strengthening technical support. The additions include French coach Alain Ravera and Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjornkegren as assistant coaches. Spanish analyst Jose Daniel Martinez Alfonso will oversee scouting and match analysis, while physiotherapist Carlos Lozano Romero returns after working with the team at the 2022 World Cup. Performance coach Dwayne Peasah Paa Kwesi completes the revamped technical team.

However, Afriyie stressed that simply adding personnel does not automatically improve the team’s prospects.

The Black Stars are scheduled to regroup in March for international friendlies against Austria and Germany as part of their preparations. Ghana will open their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
