The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has called on men across the country to champion positive masculinity as a vital pathway toward ending violence against women and girls.

She made the call during a “National Men’s Conference on Positive Masculinity to End Violence against Women and Girls held on Friday, December 12, 2025, at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.

The event, themed “Promoting Positive Masculinity for Gender Equality, Peace and Social Justice,” brought together male leaders, youth groups, civil society organisations and advocates to examine the role of men and boys in advancing a safer and more equitable society.

Participants engaged in open discussions on how to challenge harmful norms and foster respectful gender relations.

Dr Lartey commended all the men who attended the conference, praising them for demonstrating their willingness to be part of the solution to gender-based violence. She noted that the presence and commitment of men sends a strong signal that the fight for gender equality belongs to everyone.

She emphasised that ending violence against women and girls requires intentional partnership with men and boys. According to her, men’s active involvement helps shift mindsets, dismantle stereotypes and promote healthier, more respectful models of masculinity.

The minister further highlighted that the conference provides an important launchpad for a broader national dialogue on positive masculinity. She explained that Ghana needs consistent, meaningful engagement with men and boys to address the root causes of sexual and gender-based violence.

Dr Naa Momo Lartey concluded by urging stakeholders to build on the momentum created by the conference. She called for continuous collaboration between government, community leaders and advocacy groups to ensure long-term cultural change that supports equality, peace and social justice.
