By MATT JONES, SENIOR NEWS REPORTER, AUSTRALIA

    Published: 00:13 EST, 29 January 2026 | Updated: 00:13 EST, 29 January 2026

ANZ customers have slammed the bank after an outage left many without their weekly pay cheque and unable to pay rent and bills.

ANZ released a statement confirming issues with its services.

‘We’re currently experiencing delays in processing some payments due to an industry-wide issue that occurred on Tuesday 27 January 2026,’ it read.

‘While the issue has been resolved, please do not resend any payments, delayed payments will be processed as soon as possible.

‘We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.’

The notice provided little comfort for customers, who lashed the bank’s Facebook post.

‘ANZ, this is not just an inconvenience,’ one furious customer posted in reply to the announcement.

‘I’ve been waiting three business days for my salary with no clear update Bills are overdue, late fees are stacking up, and customers are left to carry the financial fallout of your outage.

Many ANZ customers haven’t been able to access their pay this week

‘What does reimbursement actually look like? Who’s covering the late fees and penalties caused by this?

‘An apology without accountability or answers is meaningless. We deserve real updates and real compensation.’

Another customer called on the bank to fix the issue ‘quicker’ because they were now behind in their rent and couldn’t buy groceries.

‘I’m defaulting on rent and power bills…. How are you going to fix this for me,’ another asked the bank.

‘ANZ – this is completely unacceptable. We processed staff wages in good faith and our employees still have not received their pay,’ another person wrote.

‘These are people with rent, fuel, food and family commitments relying on that money being in their accounts when promised.’

The payment delays were blamed on an issue at the Reserve Bank.

‘An issue on direct entry and property settlements occurred between 10am and 4.30pm AEDT on Tuesday,’ an RBA spokesperson told AAP.

ANZ confirmed the issue to Daily Mail but insisted payments were now going through.

Due to a Reserve Bank of Australia technical issue on Tuesday 27 January 2026, the processing of some payments has been impacted,’ said a spokesman.,

‘Most of these payments from other financial institutions have already arrived in customer accounts or will do so today.

‘Remaining payments will be credited to ANZ accounts as soon as possible. We apologise for the inconvenience and thank our customers for their patience.’
