New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone has finally revealed the extent of Aaron Judge‘s elbow injury – and it’s a relief for the Bronx Bombers.

Yankees fans were left fearing the worst when the captain was missing from the lineup Saturday morning after he reported feeling discomfort in his right elbow.

The team was left sweating the results of scans throughout their defeat to the Philadelphia Phillies. And following nine innings of torture, Boone finally put them out of their misery and revealed that the slugger had sustained a flexor strain.

It comes as somewhat of a small relief for the Yankees after Judge’s absence had sparked fears of a UCL tear – something which could have required Tommy John surgery and ruled him out until 2027.

Instead, Judge will be placed on IL as he undergoes treatment on the strain. However, it means the 6-foot-7 star is expected to miss at least 10 days, which still comes as a minor blow to the struggling Pinstripes.

Judge’s stint on the IL couldn’t come at a worst time for the Yankees, whose 9-4 defeat to the Phillies marked their seventh loss in their last 10 games.

Aaron Boone finally revealed the extent of Yankees superstar Aaron Judge’s elbow injury

The Yankees manager confirmed to reported that Judge had sustained a flexor strain

‘All in all good news because all of us I think feared the worst and he’s about as tough as they come and for him to even show some vulnerability and pain and then just watching him throw last night,’ Boone told reporters. ‘I knew we had an issue probably. So any time you fear the worst with that.’

Judge is expected to make his return in August as designated hitter before resuming his role at center field at a later date. ‘Hitting wasn’t the issue,’ confirmed Boone.

‘He’s on board and understands and hopefully this is something that serves everyone really well,’ the manager added of his captain.

Judge admitted to being reluctant about going on the IL when he addressed the issue with reporters.

‘I’ve never really had any elbow issues so never know what you’re getting into,’ he said.

He reiterated that throwing was the main concern, adding: ‘I couldn’t throw… so that sums it up.’

Judge has been in blistering form in 2025 with 37 home runs to his name this season but the Yankees have been badly out of form lately.

Judge looked in discomfort on Tuesday after making a throw against Toronto Blue Jays

They have fallen down to second in the AL East standings, six wins behind leaders Blue Jays, with a stuttering win record that has fallen under .500 since May. They are only win ahead of the Boston Red Sox, in third.

Saturday’s game in the Bronx was meant to represent a potential change in fortune for the Yankees with Ryan McMahon is making his first start for his new team after being traded from the Colorado Rockies on Friday.

His arrival at third base signals an end to a problem area for the Yankees this season and their losing form of late has been littered by errors in the infield.

But the news of Judge’s injury was just the first blow of the day as the Yankees went on to fall 9-4 to the visiting Phillies.
