For two days at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, February 2 to February 3, 2026, the noise never really settled.

Spikes scratched against the track, the crowd rose with every burst from the blocks, and in the middle of it all, five girls quietly, and sometimes emphatically, wrote their names into the story of the 2025/26 Ashanti Region Schools Athletics Zone 1 Qualifiers.

    Fulera Sulemana was the spark.

The T.I. Ahmadiyya SHS sprinter ran like someone who had already seen the finish line before the gun even went off. In the 100 metres, she exploded out of the blocks and never looked back, claiming gold in commanding fashion.

If anyone thought that was enough, she returned for the 200m final and did it again and led her team to victory.

Then there was Elizabeth Kadewa Awen of Effisco, calm, composed, precise. The SHS 3 representative turned the 100m hurdles into her stage, gliding over each barrier with rhythm and control.

When she crossed the line in 14.46 seconds, it wasn’t just gold she secured; it was a performance that demanded attention.

In the field, Ciara Awuah Abrafi soared. The Form 2 student from Asanteman SHS cleared 1.60m in the high jump, rising above the bar with elegance beyond her years. She also won gold in the long jump with an impressive distance of 5.40 meters.

But it was what she said afterward that lingered: she has her eyes on the 1.75m regional record at the Super Zonal. The confidence was quiet, but real.

The javelin circle produced its own drama. Erica Frimpomaa of St. Monica’s unleashed a winning throw of 36.58m, her technique sharp and decisive.

Close by was Fidaus Abdullai, “Hajia Baby Face,” who claimed bronze but showed composure and steady improvement throughout the competition.

Her performance signaled clear promise, and with her development curve pointing upward, she looks set for even greater heights in the rounds ahead.

Different events. Different styles. One shared message: the future of Ghana athletics is already here.
