Fuel prices to increase marginally from March 1…driven by crude price surge

Petroleum product prices in Ghana are set to rise slightly from March 1, 2026, according to the latest outlook report by the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC). This marks the third projected increase since January this year.

The current surge is largely attributed to rising crude oil prices on the international market, coupled with increases in finished petroleum product prices.

During the March 1 pricing window, the Ghana cedi appreciated marginally against major trading currencies, moving from GH¢11.09 to GH¢11.04 per US dollar—a 0.86% gain.

Under the new pricing, a litre of petrol is expected to sell for about GH¢12.04, reflecting a 2.89% increase. Diesel prices are projected at GH¢13.87 per litre, while Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices are expected to fall slightly, with a kilogram selling for around GH¢13.22.

COMAC noted that not all oil marketing companies may implement the price adjustments immediately, and timing could vary.

The recent spike in fuel prices comes as oil prices trade near a seven-month high, driven by speculation over potential US military action against Iran. Brent crude closed at about $71 per barrel, with some energy analysts projecting crude could reach $100 per barrel.

Movements in finished petroleum products were mixed: petrol increased by 4.58%, gas by 1.66%, while LPG fell by 1.05%.
