Ghana Football Association’s Communications Director Henry Asante Twum has cleared the air on reports that the fuel component in the Black Stars’ budget is only for the team bus.
He noted that such claims were misleading, stressing that the allocation also covers transportation for referees, match commissioners, and other officials appointed by CAF and FIFA during international matches.
Henry Asante Twum emphasized that these arrangements, which include fuel and car rentals, are a mandatory responsibility of the host nation and not solely expenses for the Black Stars.
“When Black Stars is set to play football first of all there are referees CAF or FIFA appoints them when they reach Ghana from the day they will arrive, picking them from the airport to their hotel to stadium rounds they will make it is all on Ghana. If match commissioner arrives you will give them a car and Land Crusier sometimes the referees you will give them SUV or family car.
“Because these days they can give you four referees and a referee assessor so five you need a car with enough space to ferry them from airport their rounds they will go to town they will go to training and all that,” he told Peace FM as monitored by Ghanasoccernet.com
“If they will stay for four days throughout that four day period you have to make sure their internal rounds is your job.
“If you go and rent a family car at a car rental if you are given the car the tank has been filled if you are going back you have to fill it. Again if you go and rent a car for four days and you charged everyday the cheapest I have seen is 2500 the cheapest 2500 cedis.
“So if you rent it four days it means that you must account for referees, match commissioner four days, referee…four days, the recent game we played now FIFA they have someone called the FIFA data analyst he is also not a citizen here he is from somewhere if he comes and stays for four days you have to give him a car and a hotel before you come to you your home team us for your movement.
“So that component of the budget it is not Black Stars bus it is unfortunate it was described as team bus but it is transportation for officials from the beginning of preparation till the end of the preparation,”
