Former President of the United States of America, Jimmy Carter has died at the age of 100.

The Georgia peanut farmer who vowed to restore morality and truth to politics after an era of White House scandal and who redefined post-presidential service passed away on Sunday.

According to a CNN report, the Carter Center said the 39th president died in Plains, Georgia, surrounded by his family.

Carter, a Democrat, served a single term from 1977 to 1981, losing a reelection bid to Ronald Reagan.

Although Carter made significant progress as a mediator, his four years in office are mostly viewed as a disappointment, marred by setbacks to the American economy and reputation abroad.

His greatest lasting legacy, however, may be that of a human rights pioneer and world-traveling elder statesman who led an unstoppable 43-year “retirement.”

In March 2019, Carter broke the record set by the late George H.W. Bush to become the oldest living former president.
