The three suspects are currently in police custody

The Ghana Police Service have arrested three individuals in connection with violent clashes that erupted during the Ghana Premier League match between Nsoatreman FC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC on Sunday, February 2, 2025.

The incident, which took place at the Nana Konamansah Park in Nsoatre, Bono Region, resulted in the tragic death of Yaw Frimpong, a staunch fan of Kotoko.

According to an official police statement released on Monday, February 3, 2025, the suspects—Ignatius Baffour Awuah, a former minister of Employment and Labour Relation, Agyemang Duah Owusu, and Kyeremeh Joseph—are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.

A search of Agyemang Duah Owusu’s residence led to the retrieval of two dresses with suspected bloodstains and an MP 23 pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition, further intensifying the ongoing probe into the deadly altercation.

To expedite the case, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters has deployed a special team to assist the Bono Regional Police Command in uncovering the full details surrounding the violence.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has already suspended the use of Nana Konamansah Park and taken disciplinary measures against both clubs.

Meanwhile, calls for improved security at football stadiums have intensified in the wake of the tragedy.
