Five recruits have been confirmed injured during the ongoing GAF screening exercise

Five recruits have been injured during the ongoing Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) screening exercise at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, confirmed the incident to the media on November 12, 2025.

He explained that the victims sustained severe injuries but are currently receiving medical attention.

Dr Amoakohene assured the public, including prospective recruits, that measures will be implemented to prevent similar occurrences during future recruitment exercises.

“I have directed that they receive the best possible medical care and full support to aid their recovery.

“We deeply regret this incident and will ensure that all future recruitment and screening exercises are conducted in a safe, orderly and humane manner,” he said.

The minister also expressed his heartfelt sympathy to the affected individuals and their families, as well as to the families of the six individuals who lost their lives in a stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the affected individuals and their families,” he added.

Meanwhile, five more people are currently receiving intensive care following the stampede that occurred at the commencement of the 2025/2026 recruitment exercise at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.

The military has confirmed that 28 people were admitted to the 37 Military Hospital for treatment. Of these, six have died, five are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 12 remain in critical condition.
