Parts of the Madina Market in the Greater Accra Region has been engulfed in fire, triggering an emergency response from the Ghana National Fire Service.
The news was shared on the Facebook page of the Ghana National Fire Service on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.

“A fire outbreak is currently being battled at the Madina Market”, it stated.
According to the GNFS, firefighters from the Madina and Legon stations have been deployed to contain the blaze.
“Crews from the Madina and Legon Fire stations are working to extinguish the blaze,” it added.

Though the full scale of the damage is yet to be assessed, reports indicate that several stalls and goods may have been destroyed.
The incident comes amid persistent fire outbreaks across the country.
According to GNFS data, 5,585 fire incidents were recorded nationwide between January and November 2025, involving both residential and non-residential properties, including markets.
This figure represents a slight decline compared to the 5,596 fire outbreaks recorded during the same period in 2024.
