Media personality Nana Aba Anamoah has once again waded into the ongoing conversation about whether national facilities on Ga land should have signage changed to the Ga language.

She labelled the argument as misplaced priorities, stating that it only provides room for tribal bigots to spew divisive comments.

‘Tribalism is pure nonsense’ – Nana Aba Anamoah on ‘Obaake-Akwaaba’ saga

In an interview on Okay FM on September 4, 2025, Nana Aba described the back-and-forth over inscriptions such as Oobakɛ, Woezor, and Akwaaba as unnecessary.

She questioned why so much energy is being invested in that conversation when the country is grappling with challenges like unemployment, poor healthcare, and bad roads.

“Why are we going on and on about Oobakɛ, Woezor, and Akwaaba, when we have real problems in this country? There are people who are done with National Service. They don’t know when they are getting jobs, they don’t know where their next income would come from, and they don’t know where their next meal would come from.

‘Akwaaba’, ‘Woezor’ signage replaced with ‘Oobake’ at Nkrumah Memorial Park

“These are real problems. Our roads are killing us; we are experiencing typhoid outbreaks, which is a serious problem. We are particularly concerned about Oobakɛ, Akwaaba, and Woezor. I thought it was very unnecessary,” she said.

Nana Aba noted that focusing on such issues sways away the focus on conversations that truly affect the daily lives of citizens.

She recalled her post on X on August 28, 2025, where she dismissed the calls for signage changes as “tribalism nonsense.”

She explained that she used those words because such conversations only provide ground for tribal sentiments to fester online.

“I used the word tribalism because every time such a thing comes up, it gives tribal bigots the opportunity to enter the conversation and be very tribalistic. They just look for that opportunity and I saw so many of them,” she explained.
