Ghanaian rapper Elorm Adablah, also known as E.L, has shared his thoughts on what he believes led to the decline in interest in the popular Ghanaian Azonto genre.

In an interview on Metro TV, shared on Instagram on February 26, 2026, E.L noted that disputes over who originated the genre caused many fans to lose interest.

“At a point, it began to evolve so widely that people started claiming ownership of it, and I guess that’s something that hurt the genre. I heard someone say the genre is his and that we should stop doing it.

“I also remember when Azonto evolved into something else, and they interviewed a Nigerian artiste who didn’t dispute the fact that someone had mistaken it for a Nigerian sound. So a lot of things happened that made it lose its energy,” he said.

E.L further added that despite the decline in interest in the genre, he hopes to revive the momentum it once enjoyed.

“I’m hoping to bring it back. I hope the landlord allows me. I’m talking about the Azonto landlord, the person who claimed he brought Azonto,” he added.
