The fate of over 460,000 students who sat for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) remains uncertain. The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is facing technical challenges that have hindered the release of the results.

The main issue is with the scanners used to process the objective cards. WAEC requires additional funding to repair or replace the scanners, which has caused a delay in the release of the results.

According to the Head of Public Affairs of WAEC, John Kapi, the council is awaiting the release of additional funds from the Ministry of Education. The outstanding balance of GH¢118 million is needed to complete the scanning process.

The delay in releasing the results has caused anxiety among the students, parents, and educators. The WASSCE results are crucial for students to gain admission to tertiary institutions.

WAEC has urged members of the public to ignore any information circulating on social media about the release date of the results. The council will release the results as soon as the technical challenges are resolved.

The 2024 WASSCE was administered to 460,611 candidates from 1,003 schools. The examination started on August 5 and ended on September 20, 2024.

The marking of the essays and practical components of the papers was completed on November 29, 2024. However, the scanning of the objective cards, which was scheduled to be completed by November 30, 2024, is still pending.

WAEC has assured the public that the results will be released as soon as the technical challenges are resolved. The council is working diligently to complete the scanning process and release the results to the anxious students and parents.
