A heavy rainstorm in Accra on Tuesday evening caused significant disruptions, including an uprooted tree that fell in front of the Kotobabi Police Station around 5:00 PM, damaging property and injuring a passerby.

The fallen tree landed on a moving salon car with registration number DV 5886 W, trapping its occupant and causing a hand injury. The injured individual was promptly rushed to the Police Hospital for medical care.

Personnel from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) and the police were on-site, clearing debris and cutting the tree to restore access for commuters. The impact of the fallen tree also damaged the roofs of several nearby shops, adding to the destruction.

The affected road, which connects Newtown to Pigfarm, Accra Girls, and surrounding areas, was blocked, forcing commuters to find alternative routes.

Meanwhile, the storm also caused damage at the Accra College of Education, affecting campus structures, including part of a newly built washroom facility.

The storm which occurred on Tuesday, March 25, around 5 pm, also uprooted trees, causing further property damage and destroying students’ valuables.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported, although part of the campus has been left in darkness due to fallen electric poles.
