Tough boarding school experiences at Adisadel College, according to musician Wanlov the Kubolor, made his time in an American prison feel almost comfortable by comparison.

In an interview on Joy Prime TV, Wanlov explained that the hardships he faced as a student helped him develop resilience to the point where even being incarcerated abroad did not seem difficult.

“The one thing that that school (Adisco) really did for me that I really appreciate is when I went to prison in America, I felt like I was in a hotel,” he said.

Wanlov went on to explain why he felt that way, recalling how life in Adisco’s dining hall used to be.

According to him, the meals were, most of the time, poorly prepared, sometimes even containing foreign objects.

“I mean, it’s not something I’m going to say that it’s happening now, but sometimes when you are in the dining hall, like in your beans and gari, you find maybe a wall gecko or you find the teeth of somebody who was preparing the food,” he recounted.

He added that some of the meals served to students were not safe to eat.

“We used to eat some turkey and jollof on Thursday, and everybody on Friday morning would have a runny stomach because the turkey had expired,” he said.

Wanlov said the poor and unhygienic meals at Adisadel made American prison food feel luxurious, noting that being served cornflakes, milk, and sandwiches there felt like living in a hotel.

“The kind of hustling I went through in boarding school, when I reached American prison, that they were serving cornflakes and milk and sandwiches and the rest, I felt like I was in a hotel,” he said.
