Wady Jary has been sentenced to four years in prison Wady Jary has been sentenced to four years in prison

Former President of the Tunisian Football Federation (FFF), Wady Jary, has been sentenced to four years in prison over corruption-related charges.

In addition to the sentencing, the ex-FTF boss has been given a life ban on holding any position in the sports sector across the country.

However, Jary’s lawyer, Kamal Ben Khelil, stated that they will appeal the verdict, deeming it erroneous.

Reports indicate that other lower-level officials of the FTF who worked with Jary are also being probed to ascertain whether they played any role in the corrupt act.

The sanctions were meted out after the Tunisia Ministry of Sports accused Jary of engaging in corrupt activities during his tenure in office.

In response to the court’s ruling, the Tunisian sports ministry applauded the verdict, believing it will serve as a deterrent to others on the African continent and even across the globe.

Jary was first elected as head of the FTF in 2012, but he has faced multiple allegations in recent years, including match-fixing, financial misconduct, and money laundering, which he denied.

Local media also reported on disputes between Jary and the sports ministry regarding decisions he made while presiding over the national federation.
