Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng (L) is probing former NPA boss Mustapha Abdul-Hamid (R) Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng (L) is probing former NPA boss Mustapha Abdul-Hamid (R)

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has disclosed that former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, claimed that former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo gifted him a house while in office.

The revelation was made by the Director of Strategy, Research, and Communication at the OSP, Samuel Darko, who indicated that the embattled former NPP official’s asset declarations submitted to the office for investigation were consistent with some properties identified during their probe.

He further disclosed that after tracing some of the properties, Dr Hamid has not been able to substantiate claims that former President Akufo-Addo legally gifted him the house, along with other assertions found to be inconsistent with the office’s checks.

“The OSP has officially unsealed the asset declaration Mustapha Hamid filed with the Auditor-General while in office and compared it with the assets and income he later declared during investigations before the OSP. The OSP found inconsistencies and several properties linked to him that were not declared. The OSP has questioned family members whose names appear on some of these assets, including wives and children, who claim no knowledge of the said properties. These are matters the Office wants him to address, but his lawyers are claiming harassment.

“Under OSP law, where a public officer fails or refuses to declare assets that are later traced to him, the OSP may apply for forfeiture. They forget that a person can be investigated for other offences while standing trial. That is their confusion, not an OSP creation. One of the properties in question is a house which Mustapha Hamid claims was a gift from former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. However, he has failed or refused to provide documents to support this claim,” Darko wrote on Facebook.

Mustapha Ussif and nine others are facing 54 corruption charges by the OSP, with the matter currently before the courts to determine the fate of the accused.
