Enterprising Ghanaian goalie Fredrick Asare has lifted the Nedbank Cup with Durban City FC following their dramatic 2-1 victory over TS Galaxy in the final.
The historic triumph, secured at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, May 2, marks Durban City’s first ever major title.
TS Galaxy took the lead just before half-time through Seluleko Mahlmabi, putting the visitors ahead at the break.
Durban City responded strongly in the second half, with Mfanafuthi Mkhize equalising in the 57th minute before Jean Lwamba netted the winner fourteen minutes later to seal the comeback victory.
Asare, who joined the club in July last year, was an unused substitute for the final but remains part of the squad that achieved the milestone success.
The Black Stars goalkeeper will be hoping to secure more playing time as he continues his development at the club.
Following their cup triumph, Durban City have also earned qualification to the CAF Confederation Cup next season, adding further significance to their achievement.
