Former Ghana youth world cup winner, Sebastian Barnes has been bereaved following the passing of his mother at the age of 78.
The family has announced that funeral rites will be held on May 30 and 31, 2026, at the Shamo Quaye Park in Community 3, Tema, where friends, former teammates, and well-wishers are expected to gather to pay their last respects.
Barnes, a former FIFA U-17 World Championship winner with Ghana, represented the country at the tournament in 1991 and 1993. He later earned a senior national team cap in 1994, marking his progression through the ranks of Ghanaian football.
At club level, Barnes began his career with Accra Hearts of Oak before moving to Germany, where he featured for Bayer Leverkusen and Mainz 05. He also had a stint in the United States with the Orlando Sundogs.
Family sources say his late mother played a pivotal role in shaping his career, providing support throughout his journey in football.
