Ghanaian reggae and dancehall musician Kojo Kurankye popularly known as Ras Kuuku has disclosed that every musician in the industry desires recognition and awards for their work.

Speaking in an interview on Daybreak Hitz on October 13, 2025, Ras Kuuku mentioned that awards bring joy not only to the artistes but also to their fans, who celebrate their success.

“The awards give me joy and it makes the people happy especially the fans. It’s like you planting cassava and it doesn’t grow” he said.

‘No African country can challenge Ghanaian Reggae/Dancehall artistes’ – Ras Kuuku

According to him, it is dishonest for any artiste to claim they are not doing music for awards.

“Everybody wants an award and I also want it. Whoever says he doesn’t want an award is a liar and they know they’re lying.

“We plant the music and the music grows, if there’s anything around it, we give it the fans just like I gave my award to my fans so they could return it when they’re done jubilating” he stated.

Ras Kuuku further advised fans not to be misled by artistes who claim they are not motivated by awards, insisting that every musician enjoys being celebrated.

“Every artiste likes awards and don’t be deceived by some people’s words” he added.
