Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has shared her candid views on marriage.

She believes marriage is always a risk, and couples can only hope for the best.

Speaking in a discussion at the “talk no dey cook rice podcast show”, Dr Zanetor explained this.

She mentioned that even the best intentions do not guarantee success in marriage. “Even with the best of intentions, marriage can just not work,” she said.

She explained that marriage is a risk and young people should take the step with hope for the best

According to her, young people should not see marriage and personal success as separate choices.

She advised that it is possible to pursue both at the same time.

“As part of taking the risk, you can marry while still trying to get somewhere in life. “You can cook stew while still cooking rice. You don’t necessarily wait for the rice to be ready before you start the stew. It would have been cold by then,” she explained.

Dr Zanetor stressed that you don’t necessarily have to choose between pursuing success and marriage. “It is about finding the balance,” she added.

She further advised that couples must share a foundation of values.

“There has to be some form of a platform of common values to start with, so that at least there is something to go back to when the going gets tough,” she noted.

In her view, people should not only focus on preparations before marriage.

The doctor stated that too much emphasis is often placed on planning for the wedding instead of the actual journey of marriage.

“Sometimes when people are thinking of getting married, it is the preparation towards it more than the actual journey of being married that people are focused on,” she observed.
