Princess Eugenie has named her baby daughter Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank, in a sweet tribute to her grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II

The daughter of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor welcomed the child with her husband Jack Brooksbank in Portugal earlier this month.

Eugenie, 36, said the names are from people she and Jack ‘love and admire, past and present’.

The King’s niece wrote on Instagram this afternoon: ‘2 weeks ago today we welcomed our girl to the world. And since then we’ve had the most special, cosy and love-filled time.

‘We are so happy to share Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank. Named after three people we love and admire past and present, including her Great-Grandmother who we hold close in our hearts.

‘Her name is part of English and Portuguese history, two places we love and call home.’

Referring to the couple’s other two children, she added: ‘Augie and Ernie are already the best big brothers.’

The announcement was accompanied by a photo of the newborn sleeping and was greeted with messages of goodwill from Eugenie’s many followers.

The name Adelaide was partly inspired by Queen Adelaide (1792-1849), married to William IV.

Eugenie wore two diamond wheat-ear brooches as hair slides at the evening reception of her wedding, which were commissioned by William IV for Queen Adelaide.

The name Annina is understood to have been inspired by a personal connection.

Eugenie and Mr Brooksbank divide their time between a picturesque villa in Portugal and a cottage at Kensington Palace.

The baby, who will not be an HRH, is born 15th in line to the throne, with her great-uncle, the Duke of Edinburgh, moving down to 16th place.

Buckingham Palace officials previously revealed the couple’s sons August, five, and Ernest, three, were ‘very excited’ to welcome a new member of the family.

In a photo shared by Eugenie in May, Ernest, wearing a Chelsea football kit, and August, wearing a long-sleeved grey T-shirt, can be seen holding a picture of a baby scan.

She will also be the 15th great-grandchild of the late Queen Elizabeth II, and the third to be born since her death in 2022.

The new arrival will be the fifth grandchild of Andrew, following the birth of Princess Beatrice’s daughter Athena Mapelli Mozzi in January last year.

Andrew – the King’s brother – was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office in February amid the scandal surrounding his friendship with the late paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Eugenie and Jack married at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle in October 2018, and welcomed their first child, August, on February 9, 2021.

His younger brother Ernest was born on May 30, 2023.

Eugenie is known to be a doting parent who has repeatedly spoken about the joys of motherhood.
