Manchester City announce Erling Haaland’s contract extension

Erling Haaland has pledged his future to Manchester City, signing an unprecedented nine-and-a-half-year contract that will keep him at the Premier League giants until the summer of 2034.

The extension means the Norwegian will become the highest-paid player in the Premier League and the first ever to earn over £500,000 weekly.

The huge contract eclipses his original deal, which was set to expire in 2027, and will see him remain at the Etihad Stadium until 2034, at the age of 34.

Reports by Graeme Bailey also indicate that the striker will earn much more in his new contract through bonuses and image rights. This will put to bed rumors suggesting that the 24-year-old was on the radar of Real Madrid.

Reflecting on his new deal, Haaland expressed his excitement about the contract and his long-term future at the Etihad.

“I am really happy to have signed my new contract and to be able to look forward to spending even more time at this great club.

“Manchester City is a special club, full of fantastic people with amazing supporters, and it’s the type of environment that helps bring the best out of everybody,” he said.

Since joining City in June 2022 from Borussia Dortmund, Haaland has scored 111 goals in 126 games and has lifted two Premier League titles, the Champions League, an FA Cup, and a Super Cup.
