Kumawood actor, Kwaku Manu, has shared his opinion on former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo‘s statue which was vandalised on January 13, 2025.

In a discussion on United Showbiz, Kwaku Manu noted that before a statue is erected in favour of a president, it should have to go through parliamentary approval.

“I am disappointed in Ghanaians because we fight for politicians, but we don’t care about ourselves. People are going through hardships in the country and the leaders are not doing anything about it. I won’t be surprised if someone vandalised the statue out of hunger… All I am saying is that before a president decides to erect a statue for himself, it should go through Parliament.

“Through that, they can deliberate if that particular president deserves it. Without that, everyone can just erect a statue on behalf of a president. These leaders should let the citizens honour them and not the other way round,” he said.

Kwaku Manu also raised concerns about the individuals who were killed at Techiman during the 2020 general elections.

“During the 2020 general elections, some people were shot dead at Techiman, everyone, including journalists, called on the president to at least deliver a speech on it. But he didn’t do it. Assuming this happened in another country, the police involved would be arrested by now,” he added.

    Background:

The statue of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, located at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital at Sekondi, was vandalised by unknown individuals.

It remains unclear who is responsible for the destruction.

This is not the first time the statue has been tampered with, as part of it was damaged a few weeks earlier, but subsequently repaired.

President Akufo-Addo faced significant criticisms after unveiling the statue on November 6, 2024.
