As young people around the world confront rising economic pressures, career uncertainty and fast-moving social changes, a newly enstooled Ghanaian chief is setting out an agenda centred on youth development and stronger ties between Ghana and its diaspora.

Nii Nortey Nsuro Oblantaa Mantse I, formerly known as Nii Nortey K Oquaye, was formally enstooled in Accra at a ceremony attended by chiefs, former Speaker of Parliament Prof Mike Oquaye, Ambassador Mike Oquaye Jnr, community leaders and a wide circle of family and friends.

In his first message as chief, he emphasised his commitment to supporting young people in Ghana and abroad through mentorship, opportunity creation and civic engagement.

Nii Nortey Nsuro is widely respected for his work in leadership development and community empowerment.

He is the Founder of the Oquaye Foundation, which runs programmes focused on education, youth leadership and diaspora engagement.

He also serves as the Chairman of the Board for 100 Black Men of Ghana, an organisation inspired by the legacy of 100 Black Men of America and is the driving force behind the 100 Black Men of Accra initiative.

In addition to his philanthropic leadership, he chairs the UPSA African American Business Resource Group, where he has supported efforts to create a more inclusive corporate environment for African-American professionals and strengthen links between Ghana and the global Black community.

In his remarks, he highlighted that young people today face intense pressure, navigating unstable job markets, economic hardship and shifting social expectations.

He stressed that these realities demand deliberate strategies that build confidence, skills and resilience among the next generation.

He added that he is committed to building cultural and economic bridges between Ghana and its diaspora while upholding Ghana’s sovereignty, integrity and dignity.

His vision places young people at the centre of national development and positions traditional authority as an active partner in shaping a more inclusive and progressive future.

Observers say his enstoolment reflects a new wave of traditional leadership in Ghana, one that blends cultural heritage with global experience and community-focused leadership.

Supporters believe he will bring renewed energy to youth development efforts at a time when many young people are seeking direction and opportunity.

Nii Nortey Nsuro steps into his role with a message grounded in service and possibility.

He believes that empowering Ghana’s youth, both locally and abroad, is essential to securing a stronger and more resilient future for the country.
