An England international will have a role on the board of directors for Euro 2028, combining his Premier League football duties with organising the tournament, according to a report.

Euro 2028 will be played in England, Ireland, Wales, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland, with the British Isles nations running unopposed in their bid to host the tournament after Turkey withdrew from contention in 2023.

Instead, Turkey will focus on a joint bid with Italy to host Euro 2032. It was also confirmed that Northern Ireland will not host any games at Euro 2028 as originally planned, nor would it be eligible for automatic qualification.

FA chairperson Debbie Hewitt will name her board of directors this week for Euro 2028, and it is believed that Aston Villa centre back Tyrone Mings is in the running for a position, as per The Telegraph.

Mings, 32, is expected to hold a non-executive role as part of a team that will bring 51 matches in the space of a month in three years’ time.

The last of Mings’ 18 England caps came a year-and-a-half ago and, while he will be 35 by the time Euro 2028 comes around, it is expected that he will still be playing.

If Mings is to secure such a role with the FA, he would be adding to his already expansive list of extracurricular activities away from football.

The defender was once named in Forbes’ ‘30 Under 30’ list to recognise ‘young visionaries’, having worked with Prince William in an initiative to end homelessness, as he experienced such misfortune as a child.

While he was at Ipswich Town at the start of his career, he spent Christmas Day 2013 feeding homeless people, with the Ipswich Town’s Supporters’ Club lauding him for his charitable work.

Not to mention, when he was handed the No 3 shirt by Ipswich at the beginning of the 2014–15 season, he swapped the shirts of fans who had already bought ones with his old number on the back.

Mings was ruled out for the entirety of the 2023-24 season after suffering a serious knee injury on the opening day of the campaign against Newcastle.

However, he returned to Villa’s squad on October 30, 2024, and has made 16 appearances this season, including in the Champions League, where his side face PSG in the quarter-final next month.
