The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor conducted an inspection of the ongoing shutdown maintenance work at the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant in Ellembelle District in the Western region, expressing satisfaction with the progress.

The plant, a critical component of Ghana’s energy infrastructure, is undergoing scheduled maintenance to ensure its continued efficiency, reliability and enhanced capacity.

During the visit, Jinapor highlighted the significance of the plant’s upcoming capacity increase, from 100 million standard cubic feet (mmscf) to 120 mmscf per day.

This expansion is a crucial step in realizing the government’s Gas-to-Power vision, which aims to leverage natural gas resources to provide stable and affordable electricity.

Furthermore, Jinapor announced that the government has initiated steps to construct a second Gas Processing Plant, underscoring its commitment to long-term energy security.

The Minister reflected on the significant strides made in the power sector since assuming office.

“We were shedding load of about 700 MW in December 2024, just before I took over as Energy Minister,” he stated. “For months now, there has been zero load shedding, and we are even exporting power to other countries. We have made significant progress”, he assured .

The Minister’s reiterated government’s dedication to transforming Ghana’s energy landscape, ensuring a brighter future for the nation.

The Energy Minister was accompanied by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ghana National Gas Company, Judith Adjobah Blay and Engineer Robert Kofi Lartey who is also the deputy CEO of the company.

Judith Adjobah Blay thanked the Energy Minister for visiting and inspecting the plant.
